Who I Work With

My specialist clinical work focuses on the spectrum of experiences that arise from trauma and loss.

These areas are supported by my specialist interests, continuing professional development and my doctoral research.

I work with adults and adolescents. I celebrate the diversity of humanity; all genders, sexualities, faiths, ethnicities, heritage and those with neurodiversity gifts are very welcome.

I invite you to book a free 20-minute phone call or Teams meeting to discuss how we could work together.

Reproductive Losses and Transitions, Including Abortion, Miscarriage, Stillbirth and IVF

Having a baby isn't always easy. I have experience of working with people in the midst of hope for a longed-for baby, or in the pain of loss from a miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion. All of these experiences are valid, and I can support you with compassion, allowing a sense of safety and hope for the future, with or without a longed-for baby.

Bereavement and Prolonged or Traumatic Grief

Losing someone we love can be overwhelming; it can feel like our life is impossible. It may feel difficult to think about a person who has died in a sense of loving remembrance. It might feel that it would be a betrayal to carry on without them. I can support you in letting go of any guilt or shame you may be experiencing, and start moving on in your life.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

The distress someone experiences following trauma may lead to a withdrawal from life and a feeling of disconnection and loneliness. The good news is that we have excellent, effective treatments for PTSD and there's a good deal of hope for recovery.

I've worked with many people who have experienced PTSD, and I'm always humbled by their recovery and transformation.

Complex PTSD

What makes the PTSD complex is a change in personality, high levels of unmanageable emotion, anger and distrust. Hopelessness may lead to risk, such as destructive behaviours, as well as alcohol and drug use. You may also experience a loss of intimacy and closeness, due to shame and worthlessness.

The good news is that we can get into PTSD and reduce those symptoms and experiences and then move on to a bespoke therapy to work on trust, connectedness, and how you can feel safe and grow. We can work on overcoming this together.

Complex Trauma/Childhood Trauma

The hallmark of complex and childhood trauma is a drive to protect ourselves. You may have experienced abuse, cruelty and neglect. Complex or childhood trauma doesn't follow a pattern of thinking, feeling or doing; it relates to how we've coped and stayed safe.

Together, we can work on traumatic memories as well as reducing automatic responses that have kept you safe in the past, but have now become part of the problem. It may take some time to build a therapeutic relationship, which is understandable given your history. There's time to build trust, hope and safety.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

There are some similarities with BPD and Complex PTSD. In BPD there'll often be an experience of guilt, shame and worthlessness, to the extent where you feel that you don’t deserve to feel better. You may even try to destroy yourself by self-harming, starving or frequent suicidal acts. Perhaps you don’t believe you're worthy of care and support, and yet you so desperately long for it.

It may feel risky to start therapy, but it's possible to believe that you're worthy of safety, hope and growth. It'll be hard work, but it is possible.

Recovery Following Rape and/or Sexual Assault

The hallmark of complex and childhood trauma is a drive to protect ourselves. You may have experienced abuse, cruelty and neglect. Complex or childhood trauma doesn't follow a pattern of thinking, feeling or doing; it relates to how we've coped and stayed safe.

Together, we can work on traumatic memories as well as reducing automatic responses that have kept you safe in the past, but have now become part of the problem. It may take some time to build a therapeutic relationship, which is understandable given your history. There's time to build trust, hope and safety.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

I've worked with many people with erectile dysfunction. There's often a shaming or embarrassing sexual encounter early on in their sexual experimentation, which then impacts negatively on their partnered sex. We can shift this with imagery rescripting, alongside other therapy techniques.

Erectile dysfunction can be a bit like a particular kind of social anxiety, where people focus their attention on the state of their penis, rather than focusing on pleasure and connection. I find this very rewarding work and will do my utmost to help you feel comfortable and change your sex life.
